Autumn in Choctaw County

Deer hunting is my favorite thing to do in the fall and winter.Time spent in the deerstand can become frustrating if you are only in it to kill a deer.Hunters know what I mean.Now if you can enjoy the beauty around you,laugh at the antics of squirrels and other wildlife,then you have an afternoon of total fun.

As I sit in my lofty perch on the side of a tall pine,I survey the beauty before me.The hills covered in a myriad of yellows,reds,and gold show us God's handiwork;it is unmatched by even the greatest artists.There is beauty even in the tangle of vines and briars.

The effects of the changing light of the early evening seem to play tricks on the eyes.You began to question yourself.

Over there is that an old house?There winds an old road,once well traveled.And there,is that a barn?With a pig pen?How about the old well just past the house?Who is that walking down the road to the house;an old farmer just come in from the fields?See the wisp of smoke from the chimney!Someone must be cooking supper.Listen what is that sound?Someone singing?Strange;I did not see a church!Maybe it is just over that hill.

Is it just the imagination or is the souls from long ago fighting to hold on to what was once theirs?

We may never know for sure.One thing I do know is that it is autumn in Choctaw County.
